Celebrate the Everyday

welcome

Why Celebrate the Everyday? I always start my day by repeating to myself Psalm 118:24- "This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it." It's a reminder that even in the midst of the mundane and on the hardest of days, there is always something to celebrate, always something to be grateful for! Join me as I document our family's journey of homeschooling our son.

My Thoughts Actually!

I LOVE to read blogs. I think it's because I am nosy by nature. Getting a glimpse into the lives of others makes me smile. Yes, I'm the gal that if out after dark loves the scenes I see in the brightly lit windows of homes. I promise I'm not crazy! : )

I read a blog post recently that COMPLETELY sums up the reasons Jeremy and I have chosen to homeschool. Check it out!

My Knight in Shining Armor

Today after school Zach was playing basketball in the driveway with some of the neighborhood kids. One of the kids tried to pass the ball but instead of it heading to it's intended target it almost took me out. My sweet 9 year old says "Dude, you almost killed my Mom. Don't EVER do that AGAIN!" I personally did not feel in any danger of dying but how sweet of my son to want to protect me! He's going to make one lucky lady a terrific husband someday!

God Girl

So I am reading this book called "God Girl" by Hayley DiMarco. I'm only at the beginning of the book but already it has captured me. Hailey writes in chapter 1:

"God changes lives, There is no question. If he hasn't changed yours, it's only because you haven't let him."

I accepted Jesus' invitation of salvation at age 12 but it wasn't until I lost my brother in a motorcycle accident in 2002 that I really allowed God to change me. Now it wasn't a miraculous change that happened overnight. Just the act of making my heart open allowed him to begin a good work within me. He has slowly over the course of almost 8 years refined and changed me but I am no where near finished. He has much work left to accomplish.

Let me be very REAL here. I am in NO way perfect. I often fail at my relationship with God. I don't always spend the time I should abiding in him. My church attendance is not always consistent. I can also get caught up in the drama of daily life in this fallen world. I know there will be times when I feel I'm failing at homeschooling. I'm human and I sin.....often. That is where I am thankful for God's never-ending love and grace. While he wants to lead me to do better in those areas, he does not stop loving me.

Lamentation 3:22-23 says:

"The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh every morning."

Romans 8:38-39 says:

"I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love which Christ Jesus our Lord shows us. We can't be separated by death or life, by angels or rulers, by anything in the present or anything in the future, by forces or powers in the world above or in the world below, or by anything else in creation."

I believe God put this book into my hands at a perfect time. He is leading us down a path that requires changing and educating our child in a way that is not always understood by others. You know what though? That's ok. I fully trust him.

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

Jeremiah 29:11
